Established 8 years ago Solaris Japan is a successful global retailer of anime, games and electronics in Japan. Our company is run by young mostly foreign staff and focused on using newest technology to operate and grow our business efficiently.
We handle a wide assortment of products related to anime, video games, electronics, music and books.

We are currently looking for English speaking programmers / fullstack web developers, preferably with experience in at least one common web application framework. While our current main business is online retail using shopify, we are working on several exciting apps of various kinds that are unrelated to our webshop.

Working Days/Hours:

Monday to Friday: 40h/week
10:00 to 19:00 (negotiable) incl. 1h Lunchbreak


Responsibilities:

Server, Database and Software Housekeeping
Develop and maintain API backends in Ruby on Rails / Phoenix and Ember.js frontend apps
Implement our Glorious Leader's vision of a clean and easy to use webshop in HTML, CSS, Javascript and Liquid
Manage our Shopify-Webshop and apps
Research and pitch new technologies and applications to improve our existing system
The inevitable bug hunt and fix
Contribute to keeping the office clean and organized

Required Skills:

Native Level English skills
Proficiency in at least one common programming language
Familiarity with TDD, object oriented or functional programming, and database design
Basic HTML, CSS, Javascript knowledge
Ability to work on your own
Be well organized and focused
Ability to take responsibility and solve problems
Willingness to improve yourself and the company
Know how to balance your urge to refactor and respect for legacy code


Desirable Skills:

Experience in any of our tools used
Passion for UI/UX design
Ability to recognize patterns and utilize them in your own ideas
