Description

We are looking for an experienced English teacher with Japanese language skills and appropriate visa to take up a full-time teaching position at our school, nicely located about half-way between Kobe and Himeji cities. Salary is ¥240~260,000 dependent on skills and experience and we offer an initial 1 year contract with a view to long-term employment.

The job:
Classes are Mon ~ Fri with the latest class finishing at 9pm, sometimes earlier, with events on 1 or 2 weekends during the year. Contact hours are maximum 25hrs/week and all classes are currently taught on the premises. Apart from the usual prepping and teaching, other duties include minor admin tasks and basic cleaning, etc. You will generally be teaching from kindergarten age to mature adults with a large percentage of our students being elementary school age and whose classes feature phonics and the New Finding Out series as the core material. Teachers are encouraged to enhance and extend the content as they see fit. We welcome your ideas and are happy to try new things. Among various resources, the classrooms have computers with internet access along with a piano & guitars to liven things up if inclined. Classes are planned so students of all ages can engage enjoyably with the lesson content and learn effectively, thereby promoting continuous progress and expanded cultural awareness. You do need Japanese conversational ability for this job as you will need to liaise with students and parents in Japanese and also read/speak Japanese sometimes in one particular class of ours - do tell us if you are not so confident with Japanese and maybe we can work on it together. Our teachers here are very supportive.

The perks:
When workload allows, you can use the free time as you like and it's alright to leave the building for short periods. One or two mornings are likely to be class-free and 2hr-lunches are common - busy teachers do need chill-time, after all. And we do have a kitchenette. There are usually paid holidays tying in with Golden Week in spring, Obon in summer and about 1 ~ 2 weeks over Xmas and New Year. No regular classes on national holidays either so those long weekends are all yours. Teachers need a life outside of the classroom and this area does offer some attractive opportunities. Both JR and Sanyo train lines service this town with the closest station only a few minutes walk away giving you easy access to both Kobe and Himeji cities. The Nishi-Akashi shinkansen stop is only a 10min train ride from here too. There is a gym down the road with indoor pool and onsen-like bath, and fun local bars & restaurants dot the local night-scape. There are also big parks nearby, along with river-side cycling/ walking tracks to help keep you refreshed and invigorated. The harbour is 1km away and there are hiking trails in the local foothills.

If this sounds like the kind of teaching environment for you, then please send a cover letter with your CV. We look forward to hearing from you.
