Description

Now in its 28th year, Bernard English School is looking for dedicated teachers to help continue its tradition of excellence. We hope to find someone to start as soon as possible; applicants who are comfortable working with small children are preferred.

Bernard English School focuses on small-group conversational English instruction in spacious classrooms. Students range in age from 3 to over 80, with 60% of students being of junior high school age or younger. In general, teachers will see the same students week after week: we strongly believe that consistent scheduling helps to foster a good teacher-student relationship. Teachers are encouraged to spend non-class time on personal pursuits. The school calendar has eight weeks of scheduled holiday throughout the year.

Teachers work a six-day schedule, usually averaging 23-30 teaching hours weekly. The minimal contract offer guarantees a base salary of 185,000 for up to 80 teaching hours a month. All teaching hours over 80 per month are paid at a (minimum) rate of 2,300 yen per hour. Instructors with teaching experience in Japan are likely to receive a more attractive offer, however.

In addition to teaching at our school locations, the likely schedule for this opening includes weekly off-site teaching at a kindergarten and a company. The standard contract provides for a bonus for teaching at more than one location in a single day.

Benefits and bonuses include:
Contract completion bonus
Monthly attendance bonus
Teaching-related travel allowance
Numerous long holidays throughout the year
Free weekly Japanese lessons from a qualified instructor
An initial paid training period, plus ongoing training throughout the year
School cars available for lease
When required, the school will either lease apartments or assist in finding lodging
