Description

Project GENIUS is looking for a motivated and flexible TEFL instructor for to work at two private junior and senior high schools part time (the near-equivalent of one full time position) in the western Tokyo area.

The Ideal Candidate

You live along or within easy commuting distance to the Keio line between Seiseki Sakugaoka and Takao stations, where the two schools are located.

You are willing to join already established programs at both schools but can provide constructive advice within the curriculum. You are comfortable teaching in many different contexts and adapting your teaching style to meet the needs of the schools and your students, whether you are teaching in a team teaching situation with a JTE or a solo taught class, with classes composed of students of different abilities and motivations. You will want to know about your students’ backgrounds and interests in order to discover new ways to positively motivate them to use English.,

You believe that teaching is an art in every sense of the word, you hold high expectations for both yourself and your students, and you feel you can always do better. You are interested in being observed from time to time to receive constructive feedback on your teaching practices and in sharing and borrowing ideas from other teachers. You are willing to document your lessons using an online system that will connect you with educators throughout our organization.

You are willing to take initiative and be able to discuss professionally and diplomatically with us and with our client school ways to maximize the value you and your fellow teachers add to the school and your student’s lives. You seek out opportunities to learn from other across the greater education community, in and outside your school and our company, in order to ensure the best possible outcomes for your students.

Job Details

Applicants will have native English-level proficiency. Although not required, Japanese language skills will be helpful to communicate with teachers, staff, and students at our client schools.

Our base salary is 280,000 yen plus transportation expenses per month for the duration of the contract. You will receive your full monthly salary during the months of winter and summer vacation, as well. We occasionally provide a higher rate for Master’s-level degree holders in Education or second language acquisition related fields or candidates that hold a teaching license. We are able to assist with visa renewal.
