We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and reliable full-time or part-time Nursery School Assistant to work at a number of day nurseries in Tokyo from 8:30 to 17:30. This role is a position helping to look after children aged between 9 months and 5 years old, and communicating with and teaching the children in English. Both the full-time and part-time position involve working at several locations in one ward.
The successful applicant should:
- Currently be residing in Japan with a valid status of residence.
- Be a native speaker of English.
- Have at least two years’ experience of teaching children following a set curriculum without any assistance.
- Be practical, patient and enjoy spending time with children.
- Have knowledge of children’s stories and nursery rhymes.
- Have skills in singing, drawing and acting.
- Exude warmth, compassion and possess a sense of humour.
- Be flexible and understanding.
- Have good stress management and control.
- Have a good understanding of the needs of children.
- Have previous experience in a childcare setting or a childcare qualification.
- Be able to work as part of a Japanese team.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing activities for the children to engage in such as games or arts and crafts with these having an educational or developmental aspect.
- Taking part in story time, which aims to develop English language skills.
- Caring for the well-being of children left in their care.
- Feeding suitable meals, snacks and drinks.
- Changing nappies or helping with potty/toilet training
- Modeling appropriate behavior.

*The school may have special events (Sports Day, Final Presentation, etc.) that require teachers to work on Saturdays or Sundays.
