Summary: The AmerAsian School in Okinawa, a non-profit educational institution founded in 1998 that serves children at the elementary and junior high school levels, seeks a dynamic leader to serve as our next Principal. The Principal serves as the School’s chief leader and oversees all aspects of the School’s operations, and ensures a high quality education for children who attend the school. The AmerAsian School in Okinawa’s next Principal should be a skilled communicator who is experienced at educational leadership and who can assist in the school’s next stage of growth. The Principal reports to the AASO Board of Trustees.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
• Academic-level proficiency in English and Japanese
• Familiarity with American and Japanese cultures
• Master's degree or higher
• Teaching license from an English- or Japanese-speaking university
• Minimum 5 years working in the field of education
• Minimum 5 years working in a managerial role
• High computer literacy (Google Workplace, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Publisher)
• Knowledge of the Japanese legal system particularly in the areas of education, social welfare, and non-profit
• Team-building and conflict resolution skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Fundraising experience
Work Hours: 8:00 - 17:00 plus 25+ hours of overtime per month

Holidays: Summer and winter vacations (duration varies)

Contract Type: 1 year with possible renewal (immigration sponsorship available)

About AASO: AASO is a non-profit organization which provides an affordable bilingual and bicultural education. In 1998, five Japanese mothers decided to homeschool their American-Japanese children in a rented office. Since then, the school has become a place where inter-racial children can freely explore their heritage and identity. Today, our school educates more than 60 children every school year, ranging in age from four to 15.
