Description

Berlitz Japan has openings for native English instructors for the following positions at a private Junior High School in Nara for the 2017/2018 school year for ‘Performing Arts’ (to teach Drama/Dance/Theatre/Musical Theatre in English as well as a few English classes).

This is a Full-Time contract (40-hrs per week / 8 hrs per day, including a lunch break).

Compensation: ¥290,000 monthly salary plus ¥95,000 contract completion bonus (payment of completion bonus dependent on working on contracted work days). Additional fringe benefits including paid vacation, commutation and social insurance.

Actual classroom instruction time will average about 17-19 lessons per week with the remaining time spent planning lessons, attending meetings / school activities and doing administrative work.

Please note this is NOT an ALT position.

Qualification Requirements:

We are seeking candidates who:

*Are native (or native fluent) English speakers.
*Have a minimum of a BA or BS degree.
*Have formal qualifications (minimum of Grade 5 or equivalent in music performance and theory) and/or professional experience in Performing Arts.
*Are able to perform using at least one musical instrument (voice included).
*Have experience teaching young learners at Japanese junior high schools.
*Are already residing in the Kansai (Nara, Osaka, Kyoto) area.
*Have a current visa that permits work in Japan.
*Can commit to the 2017/2018 school year (preferably from August 18, 2017 to March 17th, 2018).
*Can communicate using basic-level Japanese.
*Can prepare a 10-minute music demonstration lesson for the interview.
*Are flexible, dynamic, mature, and professional
*Are responsive to constructive criticism
*Are able to accept responsibility and work well with other people
*Are culturally sensitive
*Have excellent organizational and communication skills
*Have basic computer skills

Key Tasks and Activities:

To fully implement classes in accordance with the Performing Arts Curriculum.
To fully implement music focused classes in English.
Plan and deliver lessons that meet the needs of all students in the class.
Devise appropriate assessments in accordance with the Performing Arts Curriculum.
Keep accurate records of attendance and student progress.
Monitor and assess own performance and take a proactive approach to professional development.
Communicate and collaborate with other departmental teachers.
Conduct and support rehearsal requirements for school performances.
Visa/Residence Requirements:

Only domestic applications from those already residing in the Kansai area and available for in-person interviews will be considered.
