Description

Experienced teacher needed for full-time secondary school position teaching students ages 12 to 18 at a highly innovative international school. Background in science subjects needed. Ability and qualifications to teach other subjects as well would be ideal. The school is the only completely dual language school among the international schools in Japan. It is also multi-age by design, with a three year age range of students in every class. The students learn all core subjects in both English and Japanese guided by a thematic approach and Scotland`s Curriculum for Excellence. The core classes all have two teachers of equal status--one for English and one for Japanese. In addition, the teachers offer electives which may be taught in either or both languages and which meet from one to four times per week.

The initial contract would be from August 16, 2017, to August 15, 2018, but teachers should not apply unless they anticipate remaining at the school for three or more years. Private school health, unemployment and pension insurance are included, with the school paying half and the teacher half. Contracted hours are from 8:10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on week days, but teachers may leave earlier if they have fulfilled their responsibilities.

The schools favors a highly interactive translanguaging approach to teaching and learning.
On-going professional development is provided. An interest and ability to work well with others and to relate to students as individuals, without comparing them to one another, is imperative.

Experience teaching the A-levels/Scottish Highers/Advanced Placement and/or International Baccalaureate Courses would be an asset.
