SEG is a juku for junior and senior high school students which is well known for teaching English through a communicative and comprehension-based approach.

We are particularly well known for our extensive reading program, which complements our oral communication program.

Although we are a juku, we don't do grammar lectures. Our oral communication program is inspired by methodologies like The Natural Approach and TPRS. Please note that this ad is for positions in the oral communication part of the program, NOT for the extensive reading part of the program.

You can read more about SEG at the following links:

This assisting will be paid at 3,000 yen per hour. Beginning in September, new teachers will be eligible to take over a class as lead teacher. Our starting rate for lead teachers is 5,000 yen per hour.

2) Experience planning and teaching original lessons
3) University degree in linguistics, language teaching, or a foreign language
4) English teaching qualification
5) N3 or higher ability in Japanese (if you don’t speak Japanese, you can list other languages that you have learned. The point of this is to show that you have language learning experience.)

It is not necessary to meet all of the above criteria, but the more of them that you meet, the better your chances will be.

We don't expect applicants to be familar with The Natural Approach, TPRS, or comprehension-based approaches generally. We will train you in this approach. But if you do happen to have experience with this kind of teaching, please mention this in your cover letter.

We’re looking for teachers who are interested in language teaching as a long-term career and who are interested in professional development and learning new skills. As we take great pains to make sure that our approach is consistent with modern linguistic and SLA theory, we expect teachers to develop their own professional knowledge in these areas.

We generally look for part-time teachers who are interested in working towards becoming full-time in the future

If you are interested in the position, please write us a personalized cover letter explaining which of our five criteria you meet, your general approach to language teaching and language learning, as well as any other factors that you think would make you a good candidate for this position.

Thank you for your application.
