Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Due to our phenomenal success, Welocalize offers a dynamic environment with lots of opportunity for growth. We currently have a very exciting opportunity for a Lead Translator to join our Japanese Group.

We are looking for a web savvy, resourceful, and creative person to take responsibility for all the translations related to a mobile operating system and mobile applications developed for handheld devices, either pre-installed during manufacture or downloaded from app stores or other mobile software distribution platforms. These technologies belong to a leading multinational cloud computing, Internet search and advertising technologies corporation.

This Lead Translator’s primary purpose is to ensure that the expected level of translation quality is secured and the product delivered to the client is fit for purpose at all times.

Major responsibilities will include:

• Perform on demand and planned translation, review, and quality control tasks related to the product dealing with jobs of a transactional nature
• When additional resources are required to deal with larger volumes within deadlines, coordinate the activities of a small team of translators and take ownership of the overall quality output of the group
• Centralize product expertise and knowledge according to customer expectations and act as key product point of contact in Japanese within Welocalize
• Tailor best language practices to meet customer-specific requirements with a view to improve efficiency, productivity, quality and customer service
• Monitor quality metrics, customer feedback and vendor performance
• Analyze client negative feedback and assist with remedial action plans
• Communicate with client reviewer and update client feedback documentation
• Inform the Project Manager of progress status as required and show initiative to solve quality and deadline issues in a timely manner
• Manage and maintain the language assets (including glossaries and TMs) up to the quality standards as required
• Manage product-related queries
• Test and qualify new resources as required
• Train and support new staff and vendors according to needs of the account.
• Advise on resource selection upon request, taking into account previous experience and short-term and long-term needs
• Achieve the goals set by the Language Delivery Manager and the global account team

This position will require occasional travel.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role may evolve into a leadership position within the Japanese Group.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
4 year University degree in Translation/Applied Languages; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Native-speaker of Japanese and fluent in English, both written and spoken, in a wide range of registers, from formal to colloquial
• Extensive experience in localization (> 5 years) and proven track record as Language Specialist
• Strong inclination towards internet media, up-to-date with new gadgets and mobile applications / games released into the market
• Excellent understanding of the style and tone of current mobiles systems and applications, online stores and media sharing /social networking sites both in English and in Japanese
• Demonstrable experience in localizing advertising and marketing related web English contents with results that create a satisfactory Japanese user experience
• Excellent knowledge of user interface localization requirements
• Experience of “semi-legal” jargon describing the terms and conditions of the above described sites for both retail / partner program is a plus
• Excellent user knowledge of Translation Memory tools and Translation Management Systems (TMS). A good understanding of Machine Translation (MT) engines and MT Post-editing, (processes, tools, schedule and budget impact) is a plus.
