About the training programme
The training programme is an intensive 65-day, six-day-a-week course. The students are all volunteers with Japan’s overseas development programme. On completion of the training programme the volunteers will be dispatched overseas for two years. The course is designed to provide students with the tools and confidence to work and interact in their host countries. There are on average six students per class (a maximum of eight). The focus of the teaching is functional, practical, and communicative.
There are 210 hours of lessons; 150 standard EFL 'Home Classes', and 60 hours 'Technical Classes'. In the 'Technical Classes', the students focus on presentation and training skills necessary for them to do their job overseas. The teachers are responsible for teaching presentation skills and in helping the students design, prepare and deliver presentations from 5 minutes to 1 hour in length.
Classes are scheduled Mondays through Saturdays (six days a week), between the hours of 8.45am and 2.50pm. Classroom contact time is no more than five lessons/hours per day.
