Information Systems Engineer（期限切れ）

The United Nations University (UNU) is an international community of scholars, engaged in research, postgraduate training and dissemination of knowledge in furthering the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, its Peoples and Member States. It serves as a think tank for the United Nations, contributes to capacity building particularly in developing countries, and serves as a platform for new and creative ideas and dialogue. In addition to the United Nations University Centre (Headquarters) located in Tokyo, UNU has already established 15 research and training institutes and programmes worldwide.

We are looking for a high-energy, talented developer with 3–5 years of application development experience who is truly passionate about building smart, intuitive and valuable intranet applications to increase productivity for the global UNU user community. This exciting position would suit someone with quality analytical and creative thinking skills to tackle new problem domains and find new ways to turn innovative ideas into reality with limited resources. In addition, the ideal candidate should be keen to take on challenges with the desire to explore and extend new skills and technologies, and will have strong ethics and communication skills to work in a multicultural, international environment.

Major Responsibilities

Information Systems Engineer will undertake the following tasks:

・ Assist in the design, engineering, testing, implementation and operational support of the intranet applications;
・ Proactively identify opportunities for the development and enhancement of software;
・ Develop software specifications by analysing user requirements;
・ Create automation procedures to streamline business processes;
・ Conduct architectural reviews and analysis to ensure the effectiveness of technical solutions;
・ Ensure all relevant systems documentation and training materials are maintained;
・ Continually update technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and/or external courses, reading manuals and accessing new applications;
・ Undertake other duties and specific projects as directed, which may include researching new technology and developing innovative approaches to new challenges.

Qualifications:
・ Competency and knowledge in best practices in software development;
・ SQL (MySQL & Microsoft SQL);
・ PHP, JavaScript and DHTML;
・ Knowledge of ZEND or other web framework.

Desirable:
・ CFML (Coldfusion);
・ jQuery/YAHOO YUI;
・ Regular expressions;
・ Javascript/AJAX/CSS;
・ Cross-browser development;
・ User interface design;
・ Apache/NGNIX & IIS Administration;
・ MySQL query optimization experience; and
・ SOA and Web Services;
・ Experience in developing REST-based architectures;
・ Experience in customizing an open source CMS.

Remuneration
This is a full-time position. Remuneration will commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Appointment Duration
One-year appointment on a Personnel Service Agreement (PSA) with the possibility of renewal, based on satisfactory performance.
