Interac, Japan's largest private provider of Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs), is seeking applications from native English speakers for PART TIME ALT positions at high schools in Kanagawa Prefecture (this includes the cities of Yokohama, Kawasaki, Sagamihara, Yokosuka, Atsugi and Odawara). These positions start from late-March 2012.

ALTs are more than language teachers. They are the face of the global community and help and support young Japanese learners to broaden their horizons and develop international understanding.

Unlike many of our other positions, these are part-time. These positions will involve being at the school for four consecutive lesson periods each day (teaching schedules may change, but not the assignment times). Start and end times vary from school-to-school, but each school's times will be fixed for the year. Schedules can be from one to five days per week, depending on your availability.

Requirements

★ Must be a native-level speaker of English
★ Must have a university degree
★ Must have at least 12 years of formal education in the medium of English
★ Must be professional and mature in all aspects of behavior
★ Must have a valid Japanese work visa

Training

Interac has a comprehensive initial and ongoing training programme to support and develop all ALTs.

Working hours

Assignments can be scheduled between 08:00 and 18:00, Monday through Friday.

Remuneration

9,000 Japanese Yen per four class shift with up to seven shifts available per week depending on your availability. ALTs receive a generous holiday entitlement in line with school vacations throughout the year. Transport expenses are also reimbursed.

▼ Due to the large number of applications received, we regret that we may not be able to contact candidates who do not pass the initial screening process.

▼ Please indicate in your covering letter if you have a preference for a specific location.

Founded in 1972, Interac is Japan’s largest private provider of professional foreign teachers to the Japanese government through its ALT program. Interac is also a significant player in providing professional teachers for commercial and government organizations.

Interac is one of the largest non-government employers of foreign nationals in Japan. It employs nearly 3,000 staff in Japan across a network of 13 offices. Around 2,650 of these employees are non-Japanese.

In the mid-nineties, that field grew, and Interac started to provide ALTs and other education services to public Boards of Education and schools all over Japan.
