Description

Opened in 2018, Newtalk has established itself as a leading English provider in Kobe. We seek to ultimately redefine the concept of what it means to be an “eikaiwa (英会話)” in Japan. We are currently at our capacity and looking to bring someone into the team to help with growth.

Our methodology combines traditional and modern approaches to language learning. We provide a carefully built mix of input and output for students to advance their English in the fastest way possible. While lessons are taught mostly in English, we require an individual with Japanese knowledge. At Newtalk, we believe that instructors should have experience learning Japanese, in order to be able to understand the language learning process and properly explain language concepts from a Japanese perspective. We are looking for someone with a positive, proactive and motivated mindset.

RESPONSIBILITES
Instructor responsibilities are separated into two categories, lesson and business. Compensation differs between the two categories (see compensation section for information).

Lesson
Follow the newtalk curriculum to ensure that students excel in all areas of language learning (speaking, pronunciation, listening, confidence, writing, reading, grammar and vocabulary). This involves:
• Teaching 40-minute lessons
• Creating custom content for each student in preparation for lessons (this takes roughly five to ten minutes per lesson)
• Assigning targeted input to help with grammar and vocabulary acquisition
• Dealing with student questions via LINE during teaching hours
• Explaining English grammar, vocabulary and expressions from a Japanese perspective and in Japanese when necessary
• Maintaining lesson records and creating occasional progress reports for students
• Managing student relationships and overseeing the advancement of each student the instructor is in charge of

Business
In addition to teaching lessons, we expect instructors to be able to take on responsibilities related to maintaining and growing the school. These responsibilities include:
• Training (lesson or business related)
• Participating in events and helping out with preparation
• Marking written assignments when necessary
• Holding seminars on language learning and culture topics
• Helping with content production (on social media including Instagram, podcasts, YouTube videos, blog posts etc.)
• Creating new material to add to the curriculum
• Building a curriculum for children to be used in the future
• Opening, preparing and closing the school

COMPENSATION
Compensation will vary depending on the distribution of hours between lesson responsibilities and business responsibilities. Instructors can expect compensation to gradually rise as they take on more students over their time of employment.
Regardless of the amount of lessons taught, instructors can expect to receive a minimum of ¥200,000 per month, in addition to a negotiable transportation allowance.
Compensation is derived from two areas of work:

Lessons taught compensation:
• ¥2,000 / lesson for the first three months of employment
• ¥2,300 / lesson after the first three months
• ¥2,500 / lesson after the first year
• Further raises and management opportunities may become available as Newtalk grows

Business work compensation:
• Compensation of ¥1,500 / hour for non-lesson tasks as described in the business responsibilities section

EXAMPLE COMPENSATION AFTER 3 MONTHS:
Business hours: 8 hours (2 / week) - ¥12,000
Lessons 120 lessons (30 / week) @ ¥2,300/lesson - ¥276,000
Transportation - ¥10,000
Total ~108 hours (27 hours/ week) - ¥298,000
(¥3,576,000 / year)

EXAMPLE COMPENSATION AFTER 1 YEAR:
Business hours: 8 hours (2 / week) - ¥12,000
Lessons 180 lessons (45 / week) @ ¥2,500/lesson - ¥450,000
Transportation - ¥10,000
Total ~160 hours (40 hours/ week) - ¥472,000
(¥5,664,000 / year)

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
• Assistance in further Japanese learning
• Open work space to relax in between lessons
• Opportunities to learn other skills if desired and assist in business areas of newtalk (photo editing, video editing, software engineering, social media)
