Description

The U.S. Embassy of Tokyo is seeking a Preschool Director for the International Preschool located at the U.S. Embassy Housing Compound in Akasaka, Tokyo.

POSITION: Preschool Director
WORK HOURS: Full time, 40 hours per week
SALARY: Based on experience and qualifications

PLEASE NOTE:
1. U.S. taxes will be deducted for U.S. citizens and green card holders.
2. This position is not a U.S. Federal Government position.
3. The EWA will not sponsor work visas in Japan. Candidates must obtain a
residency permit that allows full time work privilege.

ABOUT MITSUI GARDENS INTERNATIONAL PRESCHOOL:
The EWA is a private association of employees for the U.S. Embassy Tokyo. The EWA-
managed Mitsui Gardens International Preschool has a current enrollment of 75 children,
ages 18 months to five years, and a teaching staff of 15. The Preschool operates from
September to June, with a summer program from June to August.

BASIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
The Preschool Director reports to designated EWA Board Member(s) and is responsible
for managing the strategic direction of the Preschool, establishing and managing the
Preschool budget and finances, management of all Preschool staff, setting Preschool
curriculum based on accepted U.S. preschool standards, communication with parents and
the external community, recruitment of students and staff, and management of the Camp
Wakaba summer program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education: University Degree in Early Childhood Development, Education
Administration, or related education field is required.
2. Prior Work Experience: 5-7 years of experience in the early childhood
development field is required. Experience as teacher and manager of teaching
staff is strongly desired. Experience as a director of an accredited preschool is
desirable.
3. Language Proficiency: Fluent written and spoken English. Native English
speakers need not submit relevant scores.
4. Knowledge:
 a. Good working knowledge of U.S. preschool curriculum and practices.
 b. Good working knowledge of early childhood development
5. Skills:
 a. Ability to set and implement strategic goals and policies, manage finances,
manage teaching staff, set and implement age-appropriate curriculum
based on U.S. standards, and communicate with parents and external
community.
 b. Working knowledge of child development theories, practices, and
application.
 c. Ability to effectively communicate and maintain professionalism when
interacting with the Board, the preschool staff, and parents.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. Qualified candidates able to obtain a residency permit in Japan are encouraged to
apply.
2. A successful background investigation will be required prior to employment.
3. Copies of degrees earned or school/college transcripts that address the qualification requirements of this position.
4. A copy of residency permit in Japan that allows full time work privilege or
statement of ability to obtain.
