Description

Berlitz Japan has an opening for a native (or native fluent) English speaking ‘Physical Education’ (P.E.) instructor at a private Junior High School in Nara for the remainder of the 2017/2018 school year. The instructor will also support the ‘Performing Arts’ (by assisting and helping with Drama/Dance/Theatre/Musical Theatre in English) as well as delivering a few English classes.

This is a Full-Time contract (40-hrs per week / 8 hours per day, including a lunch break).

Compensation: ¥290,000 monthly salary plus contract completion bonus (amount and eligibility of completion bonus is dependent on working on contracted work days). Additional fringe benefits including paid vacation, commutation allowance and social insurance.
Actual classroom instruction time will average about 16-20 lessons per week with the remaining time spent planning lessons, attending meetings / school activities and doing administrative work.

Please note this is NOT an ALT position.

Qualification Requirements:
We are seeking candidates who:
• Are native (or native fluent) English speakers.
• Have a minimum of a BA or BS degree.
• Have experience teaching young learners at Japanese junior high schools.
• Are already residing in the Kansai (Nara, Osaka, Kyoto) area.
• Have a current visa that permits work in Japan.
• Can commit to the remainder of the 2017/2018 school year (preferably from November 18, 2017 to March 17th, 2018).
• Can communicate using basic-level Japanese.
• Can prepare a 10-minute P.E. demonstration lesson for the interview.
• Are flexible, dynamic, mature, and professional
• Are responsive to constructive criticism
• Are able to accept responsibility and work well with other people
• Are culturally sensitive
• Have excellent organizational and communication skills
• Have basic computer skills
• Can start soon after the interview process is over (from the middle or the end of November)

Key Tasks and Activities:

• To fully implement classes in accordance with the Physical Education Curriculum.
• To work with ‘Performing Arts’ Instructors and help them deliver their Performing Arts classes.
• To fully implement Physical Education-focused classes in English.
• Plan and deliver lessons that meet the needs of all students in the class.
• Devise appropriate assessments in accordance with the Physical Education Curriculum.
• Keep accurate records of attendance and student progress.
• Monitor and assess own performance and take a proactive approach to professional development.
• Communicate and collaborate with other departmental teachers.
• Help conduct and support rehearsal requirements for school performances for the Performing Arts Curriculum.

Visa/Residence Requirements:
