Description

The Eiken Foundation of Japan is recruiting Test Raters to evaluate recorded responses from a test of spoken English.

Working conditions:
1. Week-long rating sessions are held three times annually in central Tokyo. Raters may also be invited to some extra sessions.
2. During rating sessions, raters may work part-time or full-time between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Scheduling is flexible.
3. We are currently recruiting primarily for the second rating session of the year, to be held October 4 – 10. However, raters who complete training quickly may also be invited to join the first session, to be held July 26 – August 1. If you are interested in the July session, please submit your application as soon as possible.

Compensation:
800 yen per 10-minute test; raters will evaluate approximately 5 tests per hour.

Training and certification:
1. Short-listed candidates will be asked to complete a self-access training and certification program, to be conducted at the candidate’s home at his/her convenience. The program takes approximately 3.5 hours to complete and is unpaid. Candidates who successfully complete the program will become certified as raters.
2. Candidates will be required to sign and return a nondisclosure agreement prior to receiving training materials.

Qualifications:
1. Native English speaker or proof of English proficiency of at least CEFR C1 (EIKEN Grade 1; IELTS 7.0).
2. Bachelor’s degree or higher; TESOL certification preferred.

The résumé/CV should include your visa status. In the cover letter, explain why you are a suitable candidate, highlighting your professional experience.

Please note:

2. Completion of the training and certification program does not guarantee that work will be assigned.
3. The number of raters hired for each session, and the number of available working hours, will change according to the number of test takers.
4. Raters will be required to meet ongoing quality-control standards in order to remain certified as raters.
