Experienced Japanese to English translator who is a native speaker of English sought to work in the Nagoya office of an automotive marketing company. This is an in-house, full-time contract position (immediate start desirable). Responsibilities include translating, proofreading, editing, and creating automotive-related materials. The successful candidate will work in a Japanese office environment as part of a translation team.
Primary responsibilities
- Translate materials with the appropriate format, tone, style and content as requested by the client
- Proofread, edit, and create automotive-related materials
- Check documents translated by staff of the partner companies for correct terminology, nuance, accuracy, grammar and consistency with internal style guides
- Explain translation-related points (word choice, nuance, etc.) to colleagues and clients
Required skills
- Professional translation experience (min. 3 years)
- Fluent Japanese (reading and listening equivalent to JLPT 2 or above plus excellent speaking skills)
- Excellent knowledge of Japanese and English writing conventions (grammar, punctuation, etc.)
Desirable skills, experience, and traits
- Professional automotive-related translation experience
- Fluency in any CAT tool (SDL Trados Studio preferred)
- Professional writing experience (please include any published examples of your work)
- Interest in cars and familiar with modern automotive technology
- Ability to work in a team
Salary Description
- 316,000 to 350,000 yen/month dependent on skills and qualifications
- Social insurance
- Commuting allowance (Up to 100,000 JPY)
Holidays
- 120 days/year
- Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays
