GPlus Media, the publisher of Japan Today, GaijinPot, Savvy Tokyo and other premier English-language online and print media in Japan is looking for a bilingual (Japanese-English), full-time staff translator and copy editor to help with translating and writing daily national news and lifestyle stories. The position will also involve attending, taking photos and writing about promotional press events as well as assisting the editorial team with the research, creation and management of site-wide newsletters and event calendars.

This a challenging, rewarding and highly creative position in an international media organization where task priorities can change by the day. If you’re a Japanese national with great written English skills or a native English speaker with Japanese reading ability, this a rare opportunity to join a growing media and publishing company in Tokyo. Some social media skills are required, as is the ability to be flexible and adjust to a constantly evolving work environment. Applicants should currently reside in Japan.

Responsibilities include:
- Translating a number of time-sensitive Japanese news stories each morning
- Attending press conferences for new product launches, store openings, promotional events, etc.
- Finding and compiling articles for new Japanese products and services
- Working with the editorial team to develop ideas for feature stories and online content
- Writing miscellaneous stories such as restaurant reviews, travel pieces, advertorials, etc.
- Researching, compiling and curating site-wide newsletters and event calendars
- As needed, contacting Japanese businesses, museums, entertainment companies, restaurants and more for photos and other information
- Basic proofreading, editing and/or writing for clients as required

You should be...
- Independent, creative, tech savvy, and slightly ahead of the curve
- An avid consumer of online media and knowledgeable on Japanese current events
- Suited to an international and fast-paced environment with an ability to wear many editorial hats
- An idea person always looking for innovative solutions to mundane problems

Abilities
- Japanese to English translation experience. Knowledge of editorial style guides a distinct plus.
- English editorial skills
- Social media literate
- English level: Business
- Japanese ability: preferred but not essential
- Writing and editorial skill desirable

Hours
Mon- Fri 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. (flexible)

Salary
Commensurate with experience
