Description:

This is an opportunity for a skilled and ambitious individual to head up the online and print publications of a rapidly growing academic organisation. Based in IAFOR’s Media Office in Kobe, Japan, the Publications Manager will work closely with the marketing, communications and events teams.

Requirements:

– Native-level English speaker with excellent writing and proofreading skills.
– Minimum of two years’ experience in publishing.
– Online content management and marketing experience.
– Experience in managing social media handles and email marketing campaigns.
– Skilled in WordPress, InDesign and Google Product Suite/Microsoft Office.
– Excellent communication skills.
– An ambitious, detail-oriented self-starter.
– Strong project management skills and ability to establish priorities and work in an organised, efficient manner.

Responsibilities:

– Managing and coordinating IAFOR’s peer-reviewed, open-access, academic online journals, which will involve working closely with journal editors to establish publication dates, ensuring that these deadlines are met. The Publications Manager will produce, publish and market the finished product via email and social media. The journals’ readership, reach and number of citations should continually grow through indexing, content marketing and overall quality control of the content.

– Editing and managing the content of THINK, IAFOR’s online magazine. This will involve commissioning, scheduling, editing, image-sourcing, proof-reading, publishing, search-engine-optimising and marketing content. An excellent eye for detail, an understanding of the academic content and audience and a flair for social media are all essential. The Publications Manager will be solely in charge of the editorial calendar, ensuring it is consistent in quality and well-targeted at a global academic audience.

– Responsibility for the running and marketing of the annual IAFOR Vladimir Devidé Haiku Award. Including maintaining and populating the website and marketing the award to ensure the continuation of its year on year growth.

– Create content for the IAFOR website as required and act as chief proofreader for all text output including marketing material and website content.

– Put together and proof the programmes for IAFOR’s 15 (+) yearly academic events, using InDesign. As part of the conference team, the Publications Manager will be expected to attend all domestic conferences (based in Kobe), with the opportunity to travel to other conference locations around the world. Core duties will include running the IAFOR publications desk in order to promote IAFOR’s publishing opportunities and network with potential journal and magazine contributors and existing editorial board members and editors. Administrative and event management support will also be required.

About IAFOR:

The International Academic Forum (IAFOR) was established in 2009 in Nagoya, Japan with the objective of facilitating and promoting international, intercultural and interdisciplinary exchange between academics. To this end, IAFOR runs more than 20 academic conferences in Japan, the UK, USA, UAE and Spain with the support of some of the world’s foremost academic institutions. IAFOR’s publications provide a global online platform for much of the research generated by these events, and include over a dozen peer-reviewed, open-access journals, conference proceedings and an online magazine, THINK. The organisation also produces its own original research, and runs international documentary photography and film awards, and a haiku award.
