Description

To assist Chinese high school students navigate the U.S university application process in a family-owned educational training center in Suzhou (China).

SALARY & BENEFITS

> 19,400 rmb/month and 30,000 rmb upon completion of the one year contract
> 2,000 per month for accommodations (whether used or not)
** Total annual compensation is 290,000 rmb. Annual cost of living in Suzhou is approximately 100,000 rmb. Tax rate is about 5% of monthly salary.**
> Six weeks of paid holiday, from late December each year; plus around 10 days of various national holidays.

JOB DETAILS

Your work during the year can be conceptualized in the following way:

A) May 2016 || Orientation and light work || We’ll assist you to settle in, complete your residency paperwork, and assign you some responsibilities

B) June to December || Intense core of the job || This period will require you to meet one-on-one with students over a number of months (1-3 times a week each) to counsel them on the particulars of the U.S. university application process and assist them, through each draft, as they craft and fine tune their college entrance essays. You may also coach students to do better on standardized tests.

C) January & early February || Paid time off

D) Late February to April || Light work || Assisting students prepare for standardized tests and various tasks including group teaching and participating in promotional activities.


RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist around 20 students with their Chinese applications to US institutions (high schools, colleges and universities)
2. Help our students to revise their own application essays, conduct mock interviews, and follow up with offers
3. Work with students to improve their English and performance on standardized tests such as SAT, TOEFL, and IELTS.
4. Consult with students and their families
5. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of admissions information and standardized tests
6. Receive prospective clients and lead tours to provide information about the school’s philosophy, curriculum and programs
7. Participate in marketing and promotional activities
8. Handle other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

1. Must be a native English speaker
2. A completed post-secondary degree from a top-40 US university. Those from the more prestigious schools will be given preference.
3. Your major was likely related to English, history, linguistics, philosophy, or other humanities which required substantial writing.
4. Experience as a university admissions officer is certainly a plus. As is any time you've spent in China/Asia .
5. Due to Suzhou's visa requirements only citizens of the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand can be considered.

The application deadline for this position is 25 April 2016. If you are shortlisted you will be contacted on 27 April or sooner to arrange an interview. A final hiring decision will be made before the end of May. This position will be begin as soon as May/early June.

DETAILS OF WORKING HOURS

Working hours: From June to December you can anticipate working 40 hours per week, typically weekends (with appointments on and off between 9am and 9pm) and evenings (between 7 and 9pm). Yet, occasionally, appointments must be made during the weekday to accommodate some students. You will, however, have one guaranteed day off during this time. The months of February to May are much more relaxed and you can expect to work 25-30 hours per week with two days off per week.
