Description

Established in September 2011, Global Institute (GI), a JIEC and Sumitomo Corporation joint venture company, runs Tokyo International School Afterschool (TISAS), Tokyo International School Kindergarten (TISKG) and Tokyo International School Learning Through English (TISLTE) at our Nakameguro and Minami Azabu campuses.

TISAS is an after school program that provides an immersion environment (children must attend at least 3 days per week) for non-native English speaking children. Students attend classes from 2pm until 7pm (the students arrive anytime between 2pm and 4pm). The first 2 hour block is called See, Hear and Wonder Time and is a guided play and homework time. Between 4pm and 7pm we have 5 focused study blocks: Circle Time, Kinesthetic, Story Telling, Language Strategies, and Course Time. The Course Time is different each day: Monday is Food, Tuesday is Art, Wednesday is Music, Thursday is Our World, and Friday is Kids Force. Classes are separated by age group and the maximum number of students per class is 16.

TISKG is a three-year international kindergarten program that provides an immersion environment (children must attend at least 3 days per week) for non-native English speaking children. Students attend classes from 9:15am until 2pm. The first year of this program is an immersion focus where the aim is to build a solid base of communicative ability. In the second year the students are introduced to the inquiry learning model and this style of learning is further reinforced in the third year. The maximum number of students per class is 14.

TISLTE is a once a week program that provides classes of 90, 110 and 180 minutes in length. Students are placed in classes based on their age with the program open to kindergarten and elementary students. The TISLTE program focuses on teaching children in English, focusing on learning concepts, rather than focusing solely on learning English. The maximum class size for kindergarten classes is 14 and 16 for elementary aged classes.

We are currently looking to hire a General Manager who will work together with the head teachers to oversee the smooth running of these three programs. Duties include training, class observation and support, teacher evaluation, and coverage.

POSITION DETAILS: The work week is Tuesday to Saturday. Paid vacation days are every Sunday and Monday, public holidays, five days paid leave, one week during summer, and two weeks in winter. The work day is 9 hours in length with a 1 hour lunch break. The actual daily schedule varies between 8:30 to 17:30 and 10:00 to 19:00, depending on which program is being supported/covered, but it must be mentioned that the General Manager is expected to work the hours necessary to help run the program and give the schools and the teachers the highest possible level of support.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: We are looking for a confident, dedicated, and passionate teacher, and experienced manager. Candidates must have a university degree (a degree is education is a plus), with at least 5 years EFL teaching experience (with kindergarten and elementary aged students).

LOCATION: Our HQ is located near Meguro station. This is where the General Manager will be located during in-office days.

START DATE: The start date is flexible but ideally we would like to have the successful candidate start by the 21st of March.

COMPENSATION: The wage will be between 400,000 and 420,000 per month depending on qualifications and experience. Transportation is fully reimbursed. Participation in social insurance and pension is required. An annual bonus will be made available based on a set of goals linked to company performance.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS: We will screen resumes to check that minimum requirements are met. Candidates will be contacted to arrange face-to-face interviews for candidates who are able to come to our Meguro HQ, or Skype web-interviews for those who can’t. Candidates will be asked to bring with them their residence cards, passports, copies of qualifications and letters of reference. Following the first round of interviews candidates will be short-listed for a second round of interviews, which will include a trial lesson. Once a final decision has been made we will contact all candidates to inform them of the decision. The successful candidate will then be invited in to sign employment documentation.

We look forward to receiving your application.
