Description

Borderlink is now hiring candidates from within Japan and overseas to work as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) at public elementary and junior high schools in the Kanto Region. There are positions starting in September and October in Tokyo and Saitama.

Borderlink is highly respected among boards of education and schools throughout Japan. We provide ALTs with extensive training prior to placement, giving them the tools to be successful within the classroom. We provide help in finding apartments, banking, immigration issues, and getting acclimated to the school environment.

Applicants should have some proficiency in the Japanese language or a desire to learn the language. Previous teaching experience or extended interaction with children or young adults is preferred, but not necessary.

As an ALT, you would assist Japanese teachers of English in delivering lessons in the classroom, as well as be involved in lesson planning and other language teaching tasks. Other duties would include being a part of a school club, and school-wide events such as sports day and culture festivals.

In Japan, teachers clean the schools with the students and also eat lunch with them. ALTs are expected to join in on such activities while interacting with the students as much as possible. Traditionally, English instruction at Japanese schools consists of mostly textbook related tasks, so many students have no opportunity to listen to or speak with native English speakers. This is where you come in, talking and laughing with the students not only in English class, but in the hallways, on the sports field, and anywhere else in between. It is an ALTs role to make English fun and “real” for the students. You will have the opportunity to give the students an insight that they could never obtain just from the textbook. This can be as simple as taking five minutes in class to talk about holidays or school life in your home country.

If you have interest in working at public elementary schools, we urge you to apply now.

Thank you for your interest in Borderlink. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
