Description

Established in September 1985, JIEC runs Tokyo International School Afterschool (TISAS), Tokyo International School Kindergarten (TISKG) and Tokyo International School Learning Through English (TISLTE) at our Nakameguro, and Minami Azabu campuses.

TISKG is a three-year international kindergarten program that provides an immersion environment (children must attend at least 3 days per week) for non-native English speaking children. Students attend classes from 9:15am until 2pm. The first year of this program is an immersion focus where the aim is to build a solid base of communicative ability. In the second year the students are introduced to the inquiry learning model and this style of learning is further reinforced in the third year. The maximum number of students per class is 12.

TISAS is an after school program that provides an immersion environment (children must attend at least 3 days per week) for non-native English speaking children. Students attend classes from 2pm until 7pm (the students arrive anytime between 2pm and 4pm). The first 2 hour block is called See, Hear and Wonder Time and is a guided play and homework time. Between 4pm and 7pm we have 5 focused study blocks: Circle Time, Kinesthetic, Story Telling, Language Strategies, and Course Time. The Course Time is different each day: Monday is Food, Tuesday is Art, Wednesday is Music, Thursday is Our World, and Friday is Kids Force. Classes are separated by age group and the maximum number of students per class is 18.

TISLTE is a once a week program that provides classes of 90, 110 and 180 minutes in length. Students are placed in classes based on their age with the program open to kindergarten and elementary students. The curriculum is concept based with the idea that student learn about a range of age and stage appropriate themes in English, rather than focusing only on the English language.

We are also working with a number of other companies and schools throughout Japan to run English programs, and have more than 80 teachers going to over 300 schools throughout Japan.
