You will be responsible for instruction of Language, Mathematics, and Unit of Inquiry classes in English as well as general management of the class. An advanced level of planning and assessment are also required for this role in collaboration with your Japanese partner. It is the responsibility of homeroom teachers to plan and develop all units of inquiry as well as for language and maths in collaboration with each other and with other teachers and staff.

Required Skills: ability and willingness to collaborate with your Japanese partner and all other teachers and staff, ability and willingness to apply constructivist, inquiry approach to all teaching and learning, ability and willingness to differentiate learning for students as necessary, ability and willingness to develop our curriculum and program further in collaboration with other teachers and staff, commitment and motivation to continual professional development, open-mindedness to Japanese culture and customs in the workplace.

Qualification and Experience: Teaching experience in a school with elementary age students, a teaching degree of diploma from your home country (or another English speaking country), teaching experience in a cross-cultural environment (preferred), teaching experience with students whose English is not their mother tongue (preferred), teaching experience with an IB program (preferred).

Benefits and Training: In addition to the monthly salary, travel expenses are paid up to a maximum of 25,000 yen per month and health insurance is provided. Holidays are set as follows: one week for Golden Week (May), one week for summer (August), 3 weeks for winter (Dec-Jan) and 2 weeks for spring (March).

IB training will be provided for all staff in addition to the company induction. An introductory IB workshop will be held for all new teachers (unless already attended elsewhere) followed by other official and unofficial IB-related workshops. There are also frequent opportunities for visits to IB and non-IB schools for professional development.

Due to the large number of applications we get, we will only contact applicants deemed suitable for an interview. Make sure your cover letter is addressed specifically to Kansai International Academy and includes why you would like to work at our school and how you think your skills and experience could add to our academic environment. This is not an entry-level job and positions are extremely competitive. Having numerous years of ESL teaching experience or being multicultural will not be enough to warrant an interview. Please give some specific references to our educational environment, philosophies and approaches based on the information from our website, and let us know how you would fit into our team.
