Job Summary:
As a Finance and Accounting Manager at Tokyo Academics, you will play a key role in managing our accounting operations and ensuring accurate financial reporting. You will work closely with the Finance Director and a team of accounting and finance professionals to accurately account for the company’s operations, maintain compliance with financial regulations and provide strategic insights to the organization. This is a remote role, you can work from home but must be available for meetings during our regular business hours (10am - 7pm Japan Standard Time).
What you will work on:
- Accounting Operations: Manage day-to-day accounting activities including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Internal Controls: Institute processes and create appropriate control structures to help the organization accurately track financial performance
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Compliance and Auditing: Ensure compliance with local and international accounting standards and assist with regulatory filings.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with the Director to assist in budget preparation, financial forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement strategies to streamline accounting procedures.
- Tax Compliance: Oversee the timely and accurate filing of tax returns and ensure compliance with all tax regulations.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with the broader finance team and other departments to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of financial information.
- Team Coordination: Allocate tasks and responsibilities within the finance team to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of accounting and reporting deliverables
Our ideal candidate:
- Is a Certified Public Accountant
- Has proven experience in an accounting role
- Has excellent understanding of financial reporting standards, compliance, and best practices
- Has strong attention to detail and accuracy in all financial reporting and accounting processes
- Has the ability to identify inefficiencies and suggest and implement improvements
- Is able to work well with cross-functional teams, as well as independently, in a remote work environment
- Is proficient in accounting software and familiar with cloud-based tools
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Japanese is a plus
