Description

J PREP’s Domestic College Preparation program is seeking qualified instructors to provide English instruction for motivated high school students aiming for top-level universities domestically. Lessons are held at our branches in and around central Tokyo: Shibuya, Jiyugaoka, Yotsuya, Kichijoji, and Yokohama.

[Overview]
J PREP’s EA (English for Academic Purposes) Domestic College Preparation program is seeking to expand its pool of part-time instructors to accommodate our rapidly growing student population and expanding course listings. This is an ongoing search with candidates who successfully pass the initial screening being invited for an interview and a demo lesson. Those who pass the interview/ demo lesson will be offered training before taking on classes this academic year or in academic year 2025 depending on our openings and instructor availability.

J PREP’s Domestic College Preparation is a three-year program for senior high school students. Its goal is to help our students gain admittance to competitive and ultra-competitive domestic universities and programs. As opposed to our other traditional cram schools, J PREP views the entrance exams as not the end of the students’ studies but as one important moment on the students’ journey to becoming global leaders in their chosen fields. Our students are extremely motivated, and we are seeking equally motivated, expert instructors to help them reach the next level.

[We offer]
Compensation:
• ¥5,000 per hour, following training at ¥2,000 per hour and a 3-month probation period at ¥3,500 per hour. For non-training rates, an additional flat ¥1,500 yen preparation allowance is paid.
• Additional duties may also include grading of students’ academic writing at ¥2,500 per hour; such grading is done remotely.
• Transportation reimbursement
• Paid leave provided after 6 months of employment based on days/hours per week worked

Working Conditions:
• Workdays typically in 3 or 3.5-hour blocks, 1-5 days per week
• 45 weeks / year, with a consistent, set schedule for the entire academic year
• Working times:
-- Monday – Friday: 17:00/17:30 – 20:30
-- Saturday: 13:00/13:30 – 16:30 and/or 17:30 – 20:30/21:00
-- Sunday: 10:00 – 13:00 and/or 14:00 – 17:00/17:30
• Work locations may be one or more of the following: Shibuya, Jiyugaoka, Yotsuya, Kichijoji, Yokohama
• Remote grading of academic writing done outside of regular working hours; hours mostly flexible but with set deadlines
• Lesson plans and teaching materials provided
• Modern and comfortable work environment
• Opportunities to substitute available

[About J PREP]
J PREP is a liberal arts after-school program based in Shibuya, with branches in Jiyugaoka, Kichijoji, Yotsuya, Yokohama, Mita, Myogadani, Azamino and Sakata (Yamagata Prefecture). J PREP was founded in 2012 by Jun Saito, a former assistant professor of political science at Yale University and the author of several recent bestselling books.
Our students are between the ages of 3 through 18 and attend top schools in and around Tokyo. Many of our students aspire to study abroad, attend university at high-ranking schools in the United States and other countries, or enter English-oriented domestic programs.
Our highly qualified faculty members are graduates of some of the top liberal arts programs in the US and internationally, and many hold advanced degrees.
J PREP is rapidly expanding. Our multimedia curriculum is intended to broaden students' perspectives, and supplemental courses in various liberal arts disciplines (such as literature, economics, and science) are offered periodically. Our long-term mission is to better the overall quality of the Japanese educational system from the bottom up, rather than merely teaching conversational English or preparing students for entrance exams in Japan. As a majority of our faculty members have lived outside Japan, they understand the importance of English as a communication device. For the same reason, J PREP's work environment is not confined by traditional Japanese corporate culture.
