AIC World College of Hiroshima Elementary School; Opened in April 2021
AIC World College of Hiroshima Elementary School was successfully accredited as a PYP school in December of 2024.

Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB):
Holistic, inquiry-based, concept-based, project-based, student-centered learning
Language of instruction: English (second language: Japanese)
Strong emphasis on math and science through classroom activities
Pleasure of learning which is backed by well-balanced STEAM concept, advanced technologies and cognitive science theories.
Grade 1 through Grade 6
Age of students: 6 to 12 years old, elementary school students
Approx. 20 students per class, possibly 2 classes per grade

THE JOB***
Position title: Music/ELA Teacher with Drama and Performance Arts Development
Reports to: Principal, PYP Coordinator for IB issues
Main Purpose: Develop the school's Music, Drama, and Performance Arts Programs and support the burgeoning ELA program, implementing the pedagogies of the IB Primary Years Programme in the classroom to ensure each student’s healthy learning and growth
Key relationships: PYP Coordinator, other homeroom/specialist teachers, and administrative staff

---Key Tasks & Expected Results---
Support the development of Music, Drama, and Performance Arts Programs
• Develop comprehensive programs in Music, Drama, and Performance Arts that integrate with the IB PYP framework
• Support the growth of the ELA program with a focus on enhancing student language and communication skills
• Collaborate with the Principal and PYP Coordinator to align Music, Drama, Performance Arts, and ELA programs with IBO standards
Ensure effective program delivery
• Teach 18-24 periods of Music, ELA, Drama, and Performance Arts per week
• Utilize creative and inquiry-based approaches to teaching these subjects
• Implement effective assessment and reporting practices across these disciplines
Ensure teaching effectiveness
• Engage students actively in learning through music, drama, performance arts, and language arts activities
• Encourage student responsibility for maintaining clean and organized learning environments
Provide guidance and support to students
• Conduct consultations, such as student-led conferences and parent evenings, effectively
• Support Grade 6 students with their Exhibition, incorporating elements of Music, Drama, Performance Arts, and ELA where applicable
Develop as a professional
• Participate in appraisals and make changes in response to feedback
• Engage in professional development to stay current with IB, music education, and performance arts developments
• Ideally, the teacher can teach violin, though this is not a requirement
Display professionalism
• Treat all students and staff with respect
• Maintain high standards of personal presentation and professionalism in communications
• Cooperate effectively with other staff and contribute to the broader life of the school

THE DETAILS***

Working hours: 7:45am - 4:30pm

Working days: Monday through Friday, with limited Saturday work for Sports Day and Entrance Exams.

Holidays; with some exceptions to work if a school event falls on either of these days:
a. Saturdays and Sundays;
b. Japanese national holidays stipulated by law;
c. 7 weeks off in Summer (paid);
d. 3 weeks in Winter (paid);
e. 1 week in Spring (paid)

Paid Annual Leave:
In addition to the holidays mentioned above, teachers have 10 days (minimum of 5 paid leave days to be used throughout the year)

Contract starts: March, 2025, or earlier
Contract term: March, 2025, or earlier - March 31, 2026 (renewable yearly)
Remuneration: 3,500,000 ~ 5,000,000 yen per year, depending on experience and skills
Transportation costs covered up to 30,000 yen per month

Pay cycle: 11th of the previous month to 10th of the current month, paid on the 25th of the current month (i.e. April 1st to April 10th will be paid on April 25th)

Native level of English ability is REQUIRED for this position
Business level of Japanese ability is PREFERRED for this position
