Hiroshima Global Academy (HiGA) is a prefectural public school located on Osakikamijima, an island located off the coast of Hiroshima, nestled in the Seto Inland Sea. The island is famous for its beautiful beaches, and its abundant nature. HiGA is currently running the International Baccalaureate's Middle Years Program (MYP) for junior high school and has received authorization to offer the Diploma Program (DP) for senior high school. HiGA has a learning community whose global vision is rooted in local context. The island is the perfect place for students to learn about the values of peace and environmental responsibility. HiGA’s goal is to nurture leaders who will create in their community “a better future” for sustainable peace and development. At HiGA, teaching and learning will take place collaboratively using authentic situations to guide our project and inquiry-based learning environments. Moreover, students will live and learn together at HiGA providing them with the leadership skills they need to organize themselves, make decisions and support each other.

Why work for us

HiGA is an integrated junior and senior high school with a dormitory system that opened in April 2019. One of the characteristics of our school is that we promote inquiry-based learning using the International Baccalaureate’s (IB’s) pedagogy. Our junior high school students explore the Japanese National Curriculum (JNC) through the lens of the MYP's pedagogy. Additionally, our school will commence the IB’s Diploma Programme (DP) from January of 2023 for our senior high school students. We will start welcoming Japanese and international students from overseas to join our high school in 2022 to be a part of our first IBDP cohort. We are a holistic learning community where our students, staff, families, and local community members work together to create a dynamic learning and living environment. Our school is a full dormitory school, which focuses on the academic, moral, and emotional support of our students. The faculty and staff of the dormitory have created a living environment where students can peacefully share their perspectives and culture with their peers. Indeed, HiGA aims to develop future leaders who can thrive in a rapidly changing global society and create a “better future” for peace and sustainable development. To this end, we will continue to develop as a community to nourish the minds and hearts of our students so that one day they can be the change they wish to see in the world (Gandhi).
